Directions: Take Interstate 5 to the La Jolla Village Drive exit. Drive west (on La Jolla Village Drive) and turn right at the first stoplight, onto Villa La Jolla Drive. Go up the hill and turn right at the first stoplight, then make the next right turn into the lot just south of the VA San Diego Medical Center and park there (for free). Enter the front of the building, continue walking straight, to the elevators, go to the Second Floor, and proceed to Room 2011, which is close to the elevators.

Thousands of people who are eligible for full benefits of Medicare and Medi-Cal Long Term Services and Support (LTSS), also referred to as "duals", now have an option to choose a managed care plan to coordinate care. This program is called the California Coordinated Care initiative (CCI) and the coordinated managed care program is referred to as Cal MediConnect. If you are eligible for Medi-Cal LTSS benefits only, not Medicare, you will be required to choose a managed care plan in your county. Many beneficiaries and caregivers may have questions about Cal MediConnect. What is covered under this plan? What are the benefits of joining Cal MediConnect?  We may be able to help providers, caregivers and beneficiaries answer these questions. The decision which option is best is a personal one. An Overview of PERT

Law Enforcement Liaison, Community Research Foundation and Psychiatric Emergency Response Team (PERT)

Marla Kingkade will provide an interactive overview of the Psychiatric Emergency Response Team (PERT). The presentation will also cover how to contact law enforcement in the event of a mental health crisis and law enforcement response on the scene.

Marla Kingkade has been with PERT (the Psychiatric Emergency Response Team) for several years and coordinates the law enforcement portion of the PERT program. PERT, a division of Community Research Foundation, in partnership with San Diego County Health and Human Services, San Diego County Law Enforcement, and National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI San Diego), contributes to the well-being of individuals with mental illness by actively and compassionately assisting individuals in crisis who come to the attention of law enforcement to access appropriate services and to optimize outcomes through on-scene assessments and referrals.

This presentation will cover some of the latest developments in technology to assist in managing mood disorders, such as telemedicine, mobile “apps” and more.  Discussion include the potential benefits and concerns that consumers should consider in using technology to manage mood disorders.

Colin A. Depp, PhD is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at the School of Medicine of the University of California, San Diego (UCSD). He is a Staff Psychologist in the VA San Diego providing clinical services, training, and research functions in the ASPIRE Center, a residential treatment program for homeless returning Veterans. Dr. Depp is also the Deputy Director of the Education and Training Division of UC San Diego’s Clinical and Translational Research Institute and he is a faculty member at UCSD’s Sam and Rose Stein Institute for Research on Aging. Dr. Depp received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan and his doctorate in clinical psychology from the University of Louisville. He then completed a pre-doctoral internship at the Palo Alto Veteran’s Administration and a National Research Service Award post-doctoral fellowship in the Division of Geriatric Psychiatry at UCSD.
